Introducing music in early childhood years fosters a positive attitude in learning. Students participate in hands-on centers with many percussion instruments, along with pianos, xylophones, bells, and recorders. Further instruction in singing teaches breath support, warm-ups, and solfege to increase your child’s awareness of the voice as an instrument.
Kindergarten through First grade practice patterns of music by repeating a rhythm, or singing a song that they memorize. Our littlest “pelicans” practice melodies and pitch where the students sing together in a group.
All students learn to track lyrics in music books by a sequence of phrases in songs. Learning to read music is emphasized in Third through Fifth grades where students perform on melodic instruments. This prepares your child for middle school band, orchestra, and chorus ensembles.
Various styles of music are learned throughout the year and all students are exposed to the culture and history of music in the performing arts.
